The Lexicon Group Ltd is a leading provider of niche contents through a variety of media platform with over 20 titles of magazines in different languages. Lexicon needed a MIS department that has vast expertise and experience in a multi-platform environment.
The Situation
Recruiting the right candidate to fill up the position always posed a challenge to all companies. Lexicon was no different. Lexicon was faced with a recruitment situation where IT staffs are hired, trained and after they are familiar with the company’s infrastructure, they took the exit path. Even during the employment, whenever the IT staff is on medical leave, annual leave or goes on In-Camp Training, the company is left on their own to administer their day-to-day technical support.
Lexicon needed a MIS department that has “reserved” IT personnel to cover up during the absence of the IT staff. One that also has a team of IT personnel in various expertises supporting behind whenever the IT staff hits an unfamiliar situation.
The Solution
Micro 2000 Technology proposed an outsourcing arrangement where a Systems Engineer (SE) is stationed full-time in Lexicon office. The SE has knowledge of multi-level and multi-platform to support the entire infrastructure. Whenever the outsourced SE is absence from work, Micro 2000 will arrange a replacement SE to temporary cover the day’s work. This is extremely beneficial as IT support is constantly available.
The outsourced SE also plan and coordinate activities such as installation and upgrading of hardware and software, systems design and development of computer networks. They analyze information from an operational and strategic perspective and determine immediate and long-range personnel and equipment requirements to stay abreast of the latest technology to ensure the organization does not lag behind competitors.
Micro 2000 also provided a team of Systems Engineer of various expertise backing the outsourced SE whenever an unfamiliar situation arise.
The Benefits
After implementing this outsourcing structure, Lexicon’s management was able to better focus on core business strategy. The Human Resource Department no longer needs to worry about staff retention programme or recruitment challenges.
In the event the outsourced SE leaves the company, a replacement is immediately provided by Micro 2000 and the new replacement SE will handles the hand over process. It’s a seamless operation when it comes to staff leaving the company.
